The quality of cotton produced in Turkey is one of the best in the world, second only to Egyptian and American/Virginian cottons. Turkey’s textile business began in the early 1980’s and grew rapidly reaching 18.000 manufacturer/exporters and 50.000 related sub-contractors and manufacturers in the following 2 decades, making Turkey the second biggest country exporting to Europe. In 2006, far-east competition forced Turkey to decrease the number of its manufacturers. This allowed Turkey to decrease price level and production time while increasing product quality and production innovation.
