Öz-kent Hali Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited (Öz-kent) was established in 1982 and it was influenced by the DOBAG project. In 1981, DOBAG came into existence in the leadership of German chemist Harald Bohmer and with the cooperation of Marmara University. Dr. Bohmer’s quest of rediscovering the original natural dye recipes from hundreds of years ago involved using the most recent technological advances. DOBAG used its findings to produce a limited amount of small carpets with Turkish motifs.

Öz-kent wisely decided to apply the DOBAG concept to room size carpets and the designs selected for production were not necessarily Turkish all the time. After securing a major client in the U.S.A. in the form of Woven Legends, Inc., Öz-kent expanded its production. Woven Legends provided invaluable feedback about the American market, fashion and trends. As a result of an overwhelming amount of orders, Öz-kent quickly settled into the role of exclusive producer of Woven Legends.

Öz-kent specializes in hand knotted carpets which use handspun yarn and 100% natural dyes. Majority of the production is done in small atelier atmosphere in villages which are scattered around mountainous eastern Anatolia where sources of income are substantially limited. Over the summer of 2011 it moved into its new state-of-the-art dyeing & washing facility in Malatya, Turkey and it’s now poised to handle a much larger production of hand-knotted carpets.

Öz-kent’s collaboration with Woven Legends allows it to reach a wide global network of clients. In addition to the North America, “antiques of tomorrow” produced by Öz-kent find homes in many European countries as well as Middle East, Australia and South America. Öz-kent’s popular and award winning collections such as Sardis, Bursa-WL, Aras, Tigris, Uskudar, Khotan-WL, Shirvan-WL are highly received by dealers and scholars around the world.

Customers can select carpets to purchase or place orders by making an appointment to visit our facility in Malatya or at the tradeshows we attend (Domotex Carpet Show in Hannover and New York International Carpet Show.) The vast amount of resources including the 2,180 m2 Malatya facility which houses a dye-shop, washing & finishing center and a design studio equipped with Booria CAD systems allow Öz-kent to handle any type and size custom orders.
